Developed with Adigo and Createc, the robotics system limits the time process operators need to spend in hazardous environments.

OSLO, Norway / AUSTIN, Texas – June 4, 2024 – Cognite, a globally recognized leader in industrial software, today announced a joint robotics project with Equinor, an international energy company, to improve Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) initiatives at the company’s onshore facility Mongstad, outside of Bergen, Norway.

Developed in conjunction with Adigo and Createc, the project establishes robust routines, systems, and standards governing the utilization of robots within onshore facilities. To enhance safety in hazardous environments, the project will employ a combination of robots, IP cameras, and IoT sensors for remote inspections throughout Mongstad.

Cognite’s leading Industrial DataOps platform, Cognite Data Fusion®️, serves as the trusted data foundation for the project, consolidating and contextualizing all operational, engineering, robotics, and IT data to deliver an advanced digital twin solution. Cognite InRobot, Cognite’s robotics field operations solution, will serve as the no-code, user-friendly interface for the digital twin, empowering process operators to execute complex, multi-robot inspection programs without a robotics expert. In addition to powering the robotics solution, Cognite Data Fusion®️ will provide Equinor with an elevated level of monitoring, enabling the organization to conduct data-driven analyses for enhanced predictive maintenance.

“Cognite Data Fusion and Cognite InRobot serve as the industrial brain for this project, integrating seamlessly with the impactful work our partner Createc is delivering with Boston Dynamics’ Spot robot and with Adigo Mekatronikk’s fully automated solution for water sampling using their proprietary robot Adigo VÅK_2,” said Laxmi Akkaraju, Chief Customer Officer at Cognite.“We are honored to partner with Equinor, a leader when it comes to the use of robotics in industry. Our technology combined with Equinor’s operational expertise will take the development of the autonomous industry one step further.”

Adigo recently launched the new generation of the versatile robot platform VÅK, capable of handling heavy payloads (30kg) and long working hours (8h) before autodocking for charging. VÅK will be used for autonomous transport of water samples from several points in the water treatment plant, operating 24/7. At each sampling point, Adigo installed a system to deliver fluid samples to the robot. Adigo VÅK will drastically reduce the need and presence of personnel in hazardous areas.

“Adigo’s expertise within industrial product development in technically advanced interdisciplinary projects will play a crucial role in ensuring successful integration of a fit-for-purpose sampling system into Equinor’s daily operations at Mongstad,“ said Øyvind Overskeid, CEO at Adigo.

“Createc is excited to work alongside Cognite and Equinor on this project and look forward to applying our experience in deploying bespoke robotics in harsh environments,” said Will Newsom, CEO at Createc.
